Class Actions Involving Dangerous Pharmaceuticals

These days, pharmaceutical companies produce drugs for nearly every conceivable ailment. From acne to arthritis, medicine is helping us live longer and with far less pain than our ancestors. Unfortunately, a sizeable number of these drugs turn out to be defective, dangerous or even deadly. Sometimes it takes years for the side effects to appear, leading to a longer shelf life for some medicines than should be the case.

Branstetter, Stranch & Jennings, PLLC, has decades of experience in complex class actions against pharmaceutical companies nationwide. Established in Nashville in 1952, our law firm has the in-depth litigation skill that plaintiffs trust. Following are a few dangerous drugs that have recently been the subject of lawsuits across the country:

Taxotere (docetaxel)

Breast cancer patients have come forward with accusations that the chemotherapy drug Taxotere causes permanent hair loss all over their bodies. The ensuing lawsuit alleges that the drug manufacturer did not disclose this potential side effect in a timely manner.

Although the U.S. Food and Drug Administration revealed this information in December 2015, patients assert that people in other countries received the warning much earlier. In March 2016, a woman filed a suit claiming that the manufacturer not only failed to disclose the information, but actively tried to hide it.

Zoloft (sertraline)

Hundreds of women have filed lawsuits against drug manufacturer Pfizer, Inc. following the delivery of babies born with congenital birth defects and malformations. The suits allege that the antidepressant Zoloft places infants at risk of serious medical complications or death.

Abilify (aripiprazole)

Abilify users have filed claims against manufacturer Bristol-Myers Squibb, stating that the company failed to sufficiently test the drug or issue warnings about the potential side effect of compulsive gambling. Many plaintiffs seek financial compensation for money lost to gambling as well as for mental anguish.

Propecia (finasteride)

Some users of the hair loss drug Propecia assert that it causes many unwanted side effects, including loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, testicular pain and impotence. Men who experience prostate or breast cancer after taking the drug have also filed claims.
