Prosecutors are suing opioid drug makers in Tennessee

After a baby was born dependent on drugs, three Tennessee prosecutors took up the case against the manufacturers of various opioid prescription drugs.

 

The prosecutors claim that deceptive marketing practices on the part of the drug manufacturers has led to an epidemic of prescription drug dependency in Tennessee and beyond.

Due to the number of infants being born with drug dependency, one local hospital has already been required to add a neonatal intensive care unit specifically dedicated to caring for opioid-dependent babies.

"We expect this to be a long, drawn out battle and we're ready," said plaintiffs' attorney Gerard Stranch of Branstetter, Stranch & Jennings.
