Tony Orlandi is an experienced litigator in the areas of complex and general litigation, constitutional rights litigation, consumer rights litigation, class actions, employment law, personal injury, and product liability cases. Tony has been with BSJ since October 2015.

Prior to joining BS&J, he was a commercial litigator with Goodwin Procter LLP in Boston, MA, where he litigated matters in state and federal court. Orlandi also clerked for the Honorable Aleta A. Trauger in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee from 2011 to 2015.

Tony was selected to participate in the 2017 Class of the Tennessee Bar Association Leadership Law Program, for which he currently serves as Alumni Chair for Middle Tennessee., and participated in the Nashville Bar Foundation’s inaugural Young Leadership Forum Class of 2015. He is currently serving as a Barrister in the Harry Phillips American Inn of Court in Nashville, as well as Events Co-Chair for the Nashville Chapter of the American Constitution Society. He also served on the Board of the Nashville Chapter of the Law Association for Women (“LAW”) from 2013 to 2016. In 2015, LAW nominated Tony for the “Good Guy” award, sponsored by Women’s Political Collaborative of Tennessee, for his work to promote, support, and expand women’s roles in the community.

Tony graduated from Brown University, with a degree in Public Policy and American Institutions, and became a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society his Junior Year. Tony earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2006. While in Charlottesville, Tony served as editor for the Virginia Journal of Social Policy & the Law and at graduation, he was awarded the Earle K. Shawe Labor Relations Award, given to the graduate exhibiting the greatest promise of success in the field of labor relations.

Tony currently resides in Nashville with his wife Emily. In his free time, he is a licensed Spinning instructor who has taught indoor cycling classes at the Green Hills Family YMCA and the Studio 51st Nashville since 2013.

Representative Cases

  • Abriq v. Sheriff Daron Hall, et al., 3:17-cv-690 (M.D. Tenn.). Section 1983 constitutional rights lawsuit on behalf of immigration detainees, alleging that Davidson County Sheriff’s Office unlawfully operated immigration detention program without authority.
  • Skeete, et al. v. RePublic Schools Nashville, 3:16-cv-43 (M.D. Tenn.) Certified class action lawsuit under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, alleging that defendant unlawfully robo-texted local parents and guardians. Assisted in obtaining class certification, defeating defense appeal to reverse certification decision, and obtaining approval of $2.2 million settlement.
  • In re New England Compounding Center Product Liability Litigation, MDL 2419, 1:13-md-02419 (D. Mass.) Represented victims of 2012 fungal meningitis catastrophe caused by the dissemination of contaminated pharmaceuticals by a Massachusetts-based compounding pharmacy that injured over 750 people nationwide and caused over 60 deaths.
  • Tennessee Registry of Election Finance v. Williamson Strong, et al. (Administrative Proceeding): Defended five parents against Registry enforcement action accusing them of being an unregistered PAC in 2014 election cycle; after administrative trial obtained dismissal with prejudice of all charges.
  • Davis Neurology, et al. v. Dental Equities, et al., Case No. 4:16-cv-00371-BSM (E.D. Ark.): Class action settled for $1.7M on behalf of class of recipients of unsolicited junk faxes.
  • Staubus, et al. v. Purdue, et al. (Sullivan Cnty, Tenn.)

  • Successfully petitioned for Class Certification and final approval of $2.2 million settlement in Irika Skeete, et al. v. RePublic Schools Nashville (M.D. Tenn.), a case under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, and defeated Rule 23(f) petition for interlocutory appeal.
  • Helped defeat motions to dismiss by major opioid producers in Staubus et al. v. Purdue, et al. (Sullivan County Chancery), a lawsuit to combat the opioid epidemic.
  • Successfully petitioned for preliminary and final approval of $1.7 million class action settlement in Davis Neurology, P.A. v. Dental Equities, et al., Case No. 4:16-cv-00371-BSM (E.D. Ark.), a TCPA class action.
  • In Registry of Election Finance ex rel. Susan Curlee, conducted administrative trial and obtained dismissal of all Registry charges against five Williamson County parents accused of being an unregistered political campaign committee.
